Behind the Scenes Concert Workshop

Get ready for an exciting, hands-on afternoon of costume decorating, set design, sewing, and more as we prepare for the big concert. Expect some colorful creative chaos, lots of fun, and plenty of memories as we bring the magic to life together! Wear something you don’t mind getting messy because we’ll be painting, crafting, and creating. We’ll also provide afternoon tea, and here’s the best part: Dancers who attend will be eligible for a special backstage leadership role on concert day—a unique chance to step into the spotlight behind the scenes!

Please note there are no additional fees associated with these events! We’d love to see as many of you as possible, so let us know if these dates work for you. The more creative hands on deck, the merrier!

Workshop Date and Location

Friday 8 November 2024, 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM / The Bupa Centre Seaforth

Saturday, November 23rd,Concert Day!

1. Concert Day Arrival Times

Please ensure your dancer arrives at the theatre at Dee Why RSL between 9:45 and 10:00 a.m. Follow the signs to the theatre via the escalators or lift. We kindly ask all parents to assist with a prompt and seamless drop-off to help us start the day smoothly for every dancer.

2. Roses

This year, parents won’t need to collect roses – your dancer will receive their roses backstage before they leave!

3. Important concert tip: Avoid applying lipstick at home! There’s a high risk it could stain costumes. Instead, please bring the lipstick; we’ll apply it to dancers before showtime.

  • The concert will take place at Dee Why RSL in the theatre. Signs will direct you from the entrance.

  • Please drop your dancer off at the theatre entrance between 9:45-10:00 am

  • Dee Why RSL offers ample parking underneath.

  • All ballet classes are to wear ballet tights.

  • Yes they do, they need tan jazz shoes. A reminder we arranged a discount for you at Bloch for these ones.

  • All uniform orders need to be placed by November 16th to arrive for the big day. Orders can be made online through the Parent Portal

  • Rehearsals are closed to parents to maintain focus, but we look forward to welcoming you to the performance.

  • A tutorial for creating the perfect ballet bun is available here and make up example is here. All dancers will wear their hair in a bun.

  • Please keep your costume stored safely in a garment bag, hung up to prevent wrinkles. Avoid eating or drinking anything that might stain the costume. Plus a fun fact is cats in particular, love tutus! So please keep your costumes away from your furry friends!

  • Guests should arrive by 12:30 pm, allowing time before the 1:00 pm show starts.

  • To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, we ask that no photos or videos be taken during the performance. A professional photographer and videographer will be there to capture memories of the day!

  • Dancers should arrive in ballet tights and their dance uniform (please ensure all items are labeled!). There’s no need to bring your ballet skirt. Please arrive with hair and makeup fully prepared for showtime and bring your costume along. We’ll have headpieces ready for you!

  • Please avoid bringing valuables, jewellery, or items not essential for the performance.

  • Seating is general admission; early arrival is recommended for the best view.

  • Our staff and volunteers will be on hand to supervise and assist younger dancers backstage. They watch the ‘big girls’ and have games, colouring-ins, snack breaks, and (non-messy craft activities!) for the dancers to enjoy.

    • Pack a water bottle

    • A zip-up jacket for them to wear when eating.

    • Snacks that are not messy: please avoid fruit and coloured foods that could spill on costumes

    • Dance shoes

    • Lipstick

    • Hair spray and pins

  • All dancers will be picked up from the back room. We kindly ask everyone to form a line and be patient as we make sure each dancer gathers all their belongings, receives their rose, and collects their gift. Our preschool dancers will have priority and will leave first, guided by their buddies. Thank you for your understanding!

  • The concert is expected to last approximately one hour.

  • Yes! You sure do - enjoy!

Am I Ready for Concert Day?

  • Do I have clean, unmarked ballet tights and shoes? Or tan Jazz shoes for Acro Jazz classes?

  • Hairpins, bun net, extra hair supplies and hair spray?

  • Makeup essentials? (Lipstick, powder, etc.)

  • Have I organised tickets?

  • Is the costume ready to go?

  • Snacks packed that aren’t messy, and a labelled water bottle? Snack Suggestions: Pretzels, rice cakes, apples (avoid strawberries, cordials, or any items that can stain).

  • A zip-up jacket is a great option for dancers to wear without impacting their hair or makeup. The studio one is a great option, but if you don’t have that, any zip-up jacket is great. Please avoid hoodies, as they are hard to take on and off with hair and makeup.

Ensuring these are checked off will make for a smooth, enjoyable concert day for your family!

Party Reminder!

Join us for our post-concert and end-of-year party on December 14th at Clontarf between 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

We hope you enjoy the show!
